Wee Ones has evolved to provide a variety of part time and full time day care options to babies and children between the ages of 8 months and 5 years using a combination of both Traditional and Montessori methods.

The curriculum at Wee Ones focuses on three key areas. Physical Development, Communication and Language Skills and Personal, Social and Emotional Development. These key areas are complimented by our emphasis on:

  • Knowledge and Understanding of the World
  • Creativity through Art and Design
  • Numeracy and Literacy
  • Extra Curriculum Activities

As children all develop and learn in different ways and at different rates, the children are taught in small groups, where the emphasis is on learning through fun. With large outdoor gardens the babies and children benefit from both free play and structured play sessions on a daily basis and weekly sessions of Spanish, Bilingual beats (language and music) and tennis from external providers. At Wee Ones we place considerable emphasis on the importance of learning through the great outdoors. The environment plays a key role in supporting and extending children’s development and learning which is why we have regular involvement with nature and the world outside our door. Why not visit “Your Child’s Day” to understand more about what the children do on a daily basis and what topics they are focusing on this term.

MONTESSORI CURRICULUM

The Montessori classroom is a home away from home, full of friends where children are able to be themselves.  It is a place full of interesting things to do where children can chose to participate or take time out in the knowledge that they belong.

Everything in a Montessori classroom is made to be easily accessible to the children. The specific exercises performed by the children are as closely linked to real life as possible allowing them to master tasks that they see going on around them in everyday life.

Montessori teaching takes the standard components of mathematics, language, cultural studies, art and creativity and not only make the tasks connected to them as real life as possible but ensure that sensorial materials and the great outdoors are play a significant part in the learning program.

Our teachers use extensive observation to guide and help the children learn and develop at their own pace.  There are no “grades,” but our teachers observe, keep records and plan individual projects that ensure that your child is engaged and learning at his or her best pace.

As well as encouraging children to find answers, our teachers are trained to ask questions rather than provide answers. Discovering answers for themselves helps children develop self-esteem and self-confidence.

Research shows that children who receive a Montessori education are well prepared academically, socially and emotionally. We believe that the success of Montessori teaching lies in the accomplishment and behavior of the children, their happiness, maturity, kindness, love of learning and level of work, something that we feel we succeed at within Wee Ones.

At Wee Ones our children first encounter Montessori Teaching Methods when they join “Treetops” which is our class for 2 ½ - 3 ½ year olds.  This teaching continues in “Clouds” which is home for 3 ½ years olds up to 5 years old.  Montessori Teaching happens every morning during term time.

“I have always believed that if a child is given beauty, they treat things with respect; if a child is given dignity, they treat others with respect; if a child is given freedom to express themselves and is listened to, they learn self respect.”
